Fruition is a leading, exclusive produce service provider to Woolworths, South Africa. We pack over 50 different lines of produce at our Centre of Excellence near Johannesburg. The product is then distributed to Woolworths stores across the country. We fill trucks of fresh produce daily with produce that doesn’t quite make Woolworths’ standard, and benefits those in some of the poorest urban areas in South Africa.
Food is lost or wasted throughout the supply chain every day, from initial production down to final household consumption. One-third of food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted globally, which amounts to about 1.3 billion tons per year*. Given the scope and reach of our group of companies, we acknowledge the influential part we play in the supply chains within which we operate. We must reduce waste wherever we can.
We play an active role in supplying a number of different feeding schemes across the Gauteng Province from our depot in Johannesburg. Trucks are loaded daily from our Centre of Excellence with produce that doesn’t quite make Woolworths’ standard, and benefits those in some of the poorest urban areas in South Africa.
Below are some of the projects we are currently supporting to ensure that nothing goes to waste.
Siyanqoba Care Centre – This centre is dedicated to instilling hope and a sense of purpose to those infected and affected by HIV / AIDS. Many of the individuals who receive care from Siyangoba are orphans and abused children from the Honeydew Squatter Camp in Johannesburg.
Abangani Enkodini – Located in Alexandra Township, Johannesburg, Abangani Enkodini feeds 300 abandoned children and 245 elderly members of the community daily.
Rearabilewe Care – Located in Pretoria, Rearabilewe’s main focus is to care for over 400 disabled children and grown-ups.
The Manger Care Centre – Working in and around Benoni, the Manger aims to intervene in the vicious cycle of poverty by giving children, families and communities in need a chance to become a generation of hope. The Manger feeds 2,000 disabled children and also has an old age home for severely handicapped and disabled people.
Delmas Care Centre – This centre in Delmas, Mpumalanga, provides homeless and destitute people with shelter and food.
